Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
It was an ordinary day. Rising in the morning to be about your schedule. Greeting people as they pass through your day. Maybe you determined this morning that you would intentionally look for opportunities to make someone’s day better. Maybe you were just doing your job.
We may never know the impact we have on the people that simply pass through our day. People we have never met. People we may never see again. The traveler at the station. The waitress at the restaurant. The shopper at the store.
I was in a different city awhile back and had just such an encounter. Navigating in an unfamiliar place can be a little tricky. Even if you have been to that city before, it is still not like driving at home. At home you know every route to get where you need to go.
On this adventure, I stopped at a Chick-fil-A. I had never been to this Chick-fil-A before, but walking through the doors put me at peace. It was the atmosphere created by the employees. They did not know my back story or what I had gone through that day, they were just doing their jobs. In those moments inside, there was no chaos, only friendly people and good music.
I do not know their names and they may never understand the difference they made in my day. They allowed their light to shine bright. Through that light, lives are touched, even if for a brief second. That is the difference that we can all make. It does not take any special or specific training, just a smile and a Jesus attitude. There was nothing said to me that was not said to all the other customers that day.
Decide today to shine. To allow God’s love to show through to others. To be a smiling face. To put others at peace simply by being in your presence. Make a difference in a life. Change the world one action at a time.
