Routine

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You. Psalm 143:8

We like routine. We like to know what our schedule looks like before the day begins and what is coming next. There is nothing wrong with scheduling. Most of us have a schedule in order to keep everything straight. There are some days that my phone has reminded me of things I have forgotten.

I used to be so focused on my schedule and routine that when I felt the urge to step out for God, I reasoned that it did not fit into my schedule for that day. We can get wrapped up in our routines and get so comfortable that we are literally paralyzed to step outside of what we know.

Life is about following God. Following God does not lead to comfortable places and is not routine. It is about being ready when we get the call and being able to adjust our schedules to fit life with God.

I understand that this might be difficult. I think we all like routine. Experiencing the fullness of a life with God means being uncomfortable. It means stepping outside of our routines and comfort to tell others about God.

You can look at it this way. A life with God is your new routine. This routine includes prayer, reading, communication, and willingness. It means that every day we leave room in our schedules for service. Every day we walk into the uncomfortable. We follow His plan and not our own.

That is our new routine.
