Forgiveness

My word of the year is forgiveness. This is such a special word. Forgiveness is more about you than the other person. When you allow hate and discontentment to live in you, they tend to take over, ruling your heart. Forgiveness frees you. The wall around your heart falls just like the walls of Jericho with forgiveness.

It is a conscious decision to release all of those feelings of vengeance, resentment, hurt, and anger that you hold against another person or group of people whether they deserve it or not. Whether they have asked for your forgiveness or not. Whether they understand the pain that they have inflicted or not.

Why is forgiveness so special? You hold the power of change. Real change in your life. With forgiveness comes letting go. Once you are no longer holding on to the wrongs of this world, you can focus on what is right, what is good and what will grow your relationship with God.

Forgiveness has been waying on my heart. I look at the world around me and see a need for forgiveness. We cannot have unity without forgiveness. We cannot stand together until we release the hurt and pain. The first step for our world to heal is to forgive.

This year, I want to forgive others as Jesus has forgiven me. Jesus never said we were worthy of His forgiveness, but He gives it anyway. Jesus even pled with the Father to forgive us. His forgiveness is grounded in love. Love for every person in this world.

This year, I want to love others with an agape love. To look at the world through the eyes of Jesus and to offer forgiveness freely.
