There are days when life feels like a game of chess. If you have never played chess before, it is a game of skill and thought. When you move, you are thinking six moves ahead. It is a game of strategy, all with the objective to yell checkmate when the opponent’s king has nowhere left to go.
How is life like chess?
We seem to attack one another for sport. We make coordinated moves on another person with the objective of taking them down.
We are always working on our strategy. Planning how to outmaneuver others, how to get ahead in life, how to attain our goals.
We plan things out. Thinking six moves ahead about how to further our careers, how to make more money, how to get more stuff.
What does it all profit? When we get to the end of this life, there is no outmaneuvering the King of Kings. When you stand before God, will all of your work mean anything? Will all of the stuff you accumulated in this life or the name you made for yourself count?
Jesus said that if you deny me before men, then I will deny you before my Father in heaven. What does that mean? Have you ever truly acknowledged Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Not just saying you are a Christian or going to Church every Sunday, but a true life changing experience with Him.
When you have that experience, you want to be different, you want to serve. James 2:18 says it best – But someone will say, “ You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works. The things of this world no longer matter. You get off of the chess board and into a fulfilled life with God. A life that when you get to the end, you will hear the words – well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your lord.
That is a life worth living.
